Higher Welfare Chicken Breeds

December 19, 2017

As part of our Animal Care Commitment, we are investigating the implications of breeding and growth rate in both breeders, the flocks that provide eggs to our hatcheries, and in broilers.

This includes exploring various ways to slow growth of existing breeds as well as utilizing alternative breeds to determine ways that have a meaningful, positive impact on the wellbeing of our chickens and that address consumer concerns about how their food is raised.

We are committed to meeting demand for chicken raised to our current and future customers’ welfare criteria, including the breed criteria outlined in the “Joint Animal Protection Organization Statement on Broiler Chicken Welfare Issues.” Learn more: https://www.perduefarms.com/news/statements/statement-on-meeting-demand-for-chicken-raised-to-welfare-standards/
