November 20, 2018
SALISBURY, MD. (Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2018) – Perdue Farms, through a $20,000 grant funded by the Franklin P. and Arthur Foundation, is helping the Middle Georgia Community Food Bank in Macon, Ga., provide meals to at-risk children through its Backpack Program.
“Middle Georgia Community Food Bank relies on many partners to allow us to provide the backpack program, helping over 3,500 low-income students have healthy food to eat when school is out,” said David Griffin, executive director of Middle Georgia Community Food Bank. “We are grateful for the generous award from the Perdue Foundation towards this vital program. Middle Georgia Community Food Bank’s board, staff, and volunteers are grateful to the Perdue Foundation for their partnership.”
Associates from Perdue’s operations in Perry, Ga., were also at the food recently to pack holiday meal boxes for local veterans in need. The team packed 17,000 pounds of food that was distributed in advance of Thanksgiving.
“On behalf of the food insecure and hungry people we serve across our 24 counties, we heartily say thank you to Perdue for their continued support of our efforts to feed neighbors in need,” said Griffin. “Whether it be volunteering with us, donating perishable proteins, or donating funds, Perdue remains a steadfast partner of Middle Georgia Community Food Bank.”
“All of us at Perdue are proud to stand with the Middle Georgia Community Food Bank and their efforts to put an end to child hunger in Central Georgia,” said Craig Pugh, Perdue director of operations in Perry, Ga. “Too many families face the daily anxiety of not knowing how they’ll be able to keep food on the table at home. As a community partner, we hope our support will help ease that burden and encourage others to assist with the food bank’s mission.”
