Arthur W. Perdue Foundation pledges $150,000 to Wor-Wic Community College campaign; college names lecture room after Frank Perdue
August 12, 2013
The Arthur W. Perdue Foundation, the charitable giving arm of Perdue Farms, has made a $150,000 commitment to the Wor-Wic Community College “Providing For Today While Ensuring Tomorrow” fundraising campaign.
Jim Perdue, chairman of Perdue Farms, said, “At Perdue, we understand that education is critical to the lives and well-being of so many people in the Eastern Shore community. We’re proud to support Wor-Wic’s commitment to deliver quality educational opportunities with a multi-year grant from the Arthur W. Perdue Foundation.”
In recognition of this commitment to the campaign, Dr. Ray Hoy, president of Wor-Wic, announced that the college will name the 1,500-square-foot lecture room on the third floor of the Hazel Center as the Franklin P. Perdue Lecture Room.
“To my knowledge, Frank never missed an event at Wor-Wic,” said Mizti Perdue, Frank Perdue’s widow. “He respected, appreciated and valued Wor-Wic, and I think this honor would have meant the world to him.”
“Room 302 in our Hazel Center is a 50-seat classroom that is used, not only as a classroom for students enrolled in a wide variety of courses, but for meetings of area business people and community groups,” said Hoy. “The Hazel Center houses our café and sees a great many campus visitors. As the largest room of this type in this building, the Perdue Lecture Room gets a great deal of exposure.
“We are very grateful for this commitment and all of the past support the college has received from the Perdue Foundation,” Hoy added. “The partnership between the college and Perdue goes back to the beginning of the college in 1975.”
