Perdue Farms associates and Maryland Food Bank Eastern Shore pack holiday meal boxes for families in need

November 10, 2014

Salisbury, Md. (Monday, Nov. 10, 2014) – For the third consecutive year, individuals and volunteers from local corporations joined efforts on Thursday, Nov. 6, to pack 2,200 holiday meals for families in need as part of the Maryland Food Bank-Eastern Shore’s Pack To Give Back event sponsored by Perdue Farms.

“At Perdue Farms, we’re committed to the fight against hunger. Through our long-standing partnership with Feeding America and the Maryland Food Bank, we’re able to help families in need through a variety of programs, including Pack To Give Back,” said Kim Nechay, executive director of the Arthur W. Perdue Foundation. “We’re pleased to continue our support through a $10,000 grant from the Foundation as well as the volunteer efforts of our associates.”

Paired with turkeys partially subsidized by donations from the Baltimore Orioles Food & Funds Drive, the meal boxes contained traditional holiday fixings like cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes and stuffing. They will be distributed to soup kitchens, pantries and shelters across the Shore in November and December, ensuring happy holidays for families who might otherwise go without.

This marks the third year that Perdue Farms has sponsored this holiday event, this time through a generous $10,000 donation from its charitable giving arm, the Arthur W. Perdue Foundation. A $900 donation from associates at Perdue AgriBusiness and sponsorship from Choptank Electric Cooperative also helped fund the cost of food items in each box.

Similar events were held at each Maryland Food Bank location this week. A total of 23,400 boxes will be packed between the organization’s three facilities in Hagerstown, Baltimore and Salisbury.
