Perdue Farms associates contribute $42,011 to United Way of Daviess County

Salisbury, Md. (Tuesday, February 18, 2014) — Associates at Perdue Farms’ operation in Washington contributed $42,011 to the United Way of Daviess County during a recent ceremony at the Perdue facility. The contribution included $38,191.82 in campaign pledges by associates and a $3,819.18 grant funded by the Arthur W. Perdue Foundation, the charitable giving arm of Perdue Farms.
United Way is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to maximize the communities’ resources improving the lives of all the members of the community. Through the combination of generous individual and business contributions, the United Way of Daviess County is able to support such agencies as The Power House, Bethel Mall, Connections, Four Rivers and YMCA.
The Perdue campaign allowed associates to use a simple payroll deduction process to individually contribute to the United Way. Despite tough economic conditions, Perdue associates still managed to dig deep in their pockets to support their local community.
“We are happy to support the United Way of Daviess County,” said Erich Felkner, human resources manager at Perdue. “At Perdue, where teamwork is so important to our success, we recognize the importance of neighbors helping neighbors.”
In accepting the contribution, United Way chairman Grant Swartzentruber said, “United Way of Daviess County is an exciting organization doing important work with valuable local partners like Perdue. The funds we raise are used to help meet immediate needs, strengthen and support families, and assist vulnerable and aging populations. Together, we use our resources and expertise to build a stronger community. Perdue, the Arthur W. Perdue Foundation and its employees are valued community partners in this work focused on education, income stability and health — the building blocks of a better life.”
