Perdue Farms' associates present check for $273,055.72 to United Way of the Lower Eastern Shore

Salisbury, Md. (Thursday, January 23, 2014) — Perdue Farms associates presented a check for $273,055.72 to the United Way of the Lower Eastern Shore during a presentation here on Thursday, Jan. 23. The contribution includes associates’ pledges of $181,000.22 and a $90,833.50 grant funded by the Arthur W. Perdue Foundation, the charitable giving arm of Perdue Farms. Additionally, associates raised $1,222 through raffles and luncheons to support the campaign.
The Perdue contribution brings the local United Way closer to reaching its $1.6 million campaign goal.
“Year after year, Perdue Farms and their compassionate associates demonstrate that a small group can make an enormous impact in the community. They exemplify what it means to ‘Live United’,” said Kathleen Mommé, executive director of United Way of the Lower Eastern Shore. “In addition to their generous contributions that ensure we can continue to meet the needs of Lower Shore residents, Perdue associates give of their time, energy and enthusiasm to change lives and make a difference.”
Perdue is the No. 1 contributor to the 2013 United Way campaign. Perdue associates have contributed more than $2.8 million to the United Way of the Lower Eastern Shore since 1994.
All the monies contributed by Perdue will remain on the Lower Shore to support crucial programs and services provided by 26 local agencies through 60 programs.
As Jennifer Cannon, Perdue campaign co-chair explains, associates representing Perdue facilities in Wicomico, Worcester, Somerset and Dorchester counties helped spread the word about this year’s campaign, inspiring them to reach deep into their pockets with financial support.
“Each year, a network of campaign coordinators, along with United Way staff, visit many of those facilities to share stories regarding ways in which the United Way touches the lives of some many people in the community and reinforce how contributions are put to work locally,” she said. “It’s great to see the continued support of our associates to give back to the community through this campaign. They really stepped up again this year.”
