$20,000 Perdue Foundation Grant Provides New HVAC Systems for Sussex Community Crisis Housing Services Inc.
February 13, 2023
Salisbury, Md. (February 13, 2023) — As part of a commitment to improve the quality of life in its communities, Perdue Farms through the Franklin P. and Arthur W. Perdue Foundation has awarded a $20,000 grant to Sussex Community Crisis Housing Services Inc. in Georgetown, Del., to replace two aging HVAC units. The donation from Perdue’s charitable giving arm is part of the company’s Delivering Hope to Our Neighbors® initiative focused on improving quality of life and building strong communities.
Sussex Community Crisis Housing Services provides temporary and transitional housing to the homeless.
“Crisis House helps residents find jobs, open bank accounts, secure benefits and maintain sobriety while getting back up on their feet after being homeless,” said Executive Director Maria Evans. “We provide residents with counseling, three meals a day and a warm bed.”
Two of Crisis House’s three HVAC units needed to be replaced “because they are completely nonfunctional, while a third unit has been temporarily patched,” Evans explained. “We supplemented over the summer with window air-conditioning units so our residents would not suffer in the heat on our second floor but, unfortunately, we cannot use space heaters in the winter. We are truly grateful for this gift from Perdue.”
Kim Nechay, executive director of the Perdue Foundation, praised the work of Sussex Community Crisis Housing Services.
“Crisis House has been helping the homeless in Georgetown and Sussex County for more than 40 years,” she said. “The Perdue Foundation is proud to support their mission and help our neighbors get back on their feet.”
Perdue Farms also partners with Sussex Crisis House to provide its residents with employment opportunities at its Georgetown plant.
