Salisbury, Md. (Tuesday, June 14, 2016) — As part of a company commitment to improve the quality of life in the communities in which it operates, Perdue Farms, through support from the Franklin P. and Arthur W. Foundation, has presented a $10,000 grant to the Bertie County Hive House in Lewiston Woodville, N.C.

The Hive House, located in rural eastern North Carolina, helps strengthen families and communities in Bertie County by providing access to information, resources, and program services that support and improve the lives of the community’s parents, children and youth. The Hive House serves as an after-school program, a summer program, a technology center, a parental and educational center, a food pantry, and provides needed shelter to victims of domestic violence.

“The ongoing support and friendship from Perdue and its associates toward the Hive House is truly a blessing for our community,” said Vivian Saunders, Hive House director.
“We’re grateful for the continued financial support of Perdue and its Foundation. It will go a long way toward improving the lives of so many people in our community.”

Since 2008, the Franklin P. and Arthur W. Perdue Foundation has provided $135,000 in funding for the Hive House. Through the years, associates from the Perdue operation in Lewiston have provided holiday gifts for families in need and held fund-raisers to support the Hive mission.

“The Hive House has been a tremendous asset to the Bertie County community,” said Jeff Stalls, director of Perdue operations. “Without the valuable services Vivian provides, there would be a big void in our community. The Hive House programs and outreach benefit so many people in our community, including many of our associates and their family members. At Perdue, we are honored to continue a long tradition of support.”

The Bertie County Hive House provides support to families and their children to remove barriers that may lead to the neglect and abuse of children. Their mission is to strengthen families by providing opportunities for them to improve job skills and provide a safe and stable environment for children while their parents are working.
