Perdue hits the road with new food truck on East Coast

May 30, 2017

Salisbury, Md. (Tuesday, May 30, 2017) — This year, the chicken isn’t just crossing the road – it’s rolling out for a summer-long road trip in style.
Perdue, producer of farm fresh chicken products since 1920, is launching its first branded food truck and embarking on an ongoing tour of local events throughout the East. The goal of this mobile food experience is take the brand to the millions of people that love it, and give back to their local communities.
“Perdue has been based in Maryland for almost a century,” said Eric Christianson, senior vice president of marketing for Perdue. “We’re a staple in stores across the nation. But we never lost touch with where we came from, and our food truck is a reflection of our continued commitment to our local communities.”
To accomplish this, the Perdue food truck will attend a full slate of local events, festivals and celebrations all over the East. The tour kicked off at the Willowdale Steeplechase in Kennett Square, Pa., on Mother’s Day, and rolls on throughout the year with events scattered from Massachusetts all the way to Florida. The food truck has also made stops at the North Carolina Potato Festival in Elizabeth City and the BBQ Blowout in Oviedo, Fla. Other planned stops include:
  • June 3-4: Vintage Virginia, Centreville, Va.
  • June 9: Delmarva Shorebirds, Salisbury, Md.
  • June 24-25: Giant BBQ Battle, Washington, D.C.
  • June 30: Celebrate Lancaster, Lancaster, Pa.
  • July 7-9: Square Roots Festival, Chicago
  • July 15: Summer In The Streets, Toms River, N.J.
  • July 28-30: Lowell Folk Festival, Lowell, Mass.
  • Aug. 4-6: North Branford Potato and Corn Festival, North Branford, Conn.
  • Aug. 18-19: Wicomico County Fair, Salisbury, Md.
  • Sept. 9-10: Kennett Square Mushroom Festival, Kennett Square, Pa.
  • Oct. 13-14: Apple Scrapple Festival, Bridgeville, Del.
At the events, the truck will be serving signature recipes that feature Perdue’s popular poultry to attendees. All proceeds raised will be donated to local charities and food banks – another way the brand is supporting their local communities.
“We’re extremely excited about connecting with our neighbors throughout the East and giving them a delicious, memorable experience,” said Christianson. “This also creates a unique opportunity for us to give back to the places that have supported us for years, and we couldn’t be happier.”
The truck itself is a 20-foot fully functional mobile kitchen that contains restaurant-quality equipment, refrigeration units and everything needed to create delicious dishes for a large crowd. Designed to stand out, it includes fun graphics and a TV to show content – creating an environment that invites attendees to hang out, enjoy their food and learn more about the brand.
