Perdue Joins Harry K Foundation and Food Bank of Delaware to Distribute 500 Thanksgiving Meal To Families In Need
November 19, 2018
Salisbury, Md. (Monday, November 19, 2018) – Just in time for Thanksgiving, the Harry K Foundation and Perdue Farms, in partnership with the Food Bank of Delaware, distributed 500 “Thanksgiving for All” meal boxes and Perdue chicken roasters to schools supported year-round through the Harry K Foundation.
School officials picked up the boxes on Friday, Nov. 16 from the Food Bank’s Milford Branch for distribution to pre-identified families at risk of going without a Thanksgiving meal.
The boxes will enable families to enjoy a hot holiday meal. Boxes were filled with traditional holiday staples including stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, canned vegetables, pumpkin, pie crust, a roasting pan and more. A Perdue chicken roaster completed the holiday meal.
“There should not be any hunger in our state,” said Keswani. “We are proud to partner with Perdue and the Food Bank of Delaware to brighten the holiday season for families in need. Five-hundred families will have a holiday meal thanks to the “Thanksgiving For All “initiative.”
"The Harry K Foundation’s support of “Thanksgiving For All” is part of a larger year-round commitment to ending hunger. Since the partnership with the Food Bank began in 2014, the Foundation has donated more than $690,000 to children’s nutrition programming at the Food Bank of Delaware.
“Everyone deserves to have an opportunity to gather around the table with family on Thanksgiving,” said Food Bank of Delaware President and CEO Patricia Beebe. “We are thankful for the support of the Harry K Foundation and Perdue to ensure that 500 families have this opportunity without worry of how they’ll provide a holiday meal.”
“At Perdue, we believe in that in a country as rich in resources as ours, no one should go hungry,” said Kim Nechay, executive director of the Franklin P. and Arthur W. Perdue Foundation. “It means so much to us at Perdue to join the Food Bank of Delaware and the Harry K Foundation again this year to provide holiday meals for families in Kent and Sussex counties who may not have had one without our help. That is the true meaning of giving back in our community.”
To round out the holiday season, Harry K, Perdue and the Food Bank of Delaware will partner again to provide 500 Christmas meal boxes to families in December.
