Perdue Protein Donation to the Food Bank of Siouxland Helps Feed Iowa Families Facing Food Insecurity During the Holidays
December 3, 2020
Salisbury, MD. (Thursday, Dec 3, 2020) — Perdue Farms delivered more than 9,000 pounds of nutritious protein to the Food Bank of Siouxland in Sioux City, Iowa, to assist in the organizations’ continued efforts to fight food insecurity in the Siouxland community. A portion of the fully breaded, ready-to-cook chicken tenders and strips was distributed on Wednesday, Dec. 2 at a mobile pantry at Hope Food Pantry in Sioux Center, helping feed more than 200 families.
During a normally joyous time of year, many in the Siouxland community are facing questions of how they will find their next meal, especially admin the uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic. Protein is the most requested category of food at the Food Bank of Siouxland, making this donation especially significant. Beyond being highly requested, protein is a key component of a well-balanced diet.
“The Food Bank of Siouxland is proud to partner with Perdue Farms and Sioux Center’s Hope Food Pantry. With this incredible donation of poultry, we can help provide families some relief during the stresses of uncertain times and a busy holiday season,” said Andrea Purdy, associate executive director of the Food Bank of Siouxland. “Members of the Sioux Center community have consistently come together to provide food to those in need and this generous contribution from Perdue will help ensure that no one goes hungry. We are grateful for their support and the efforts of Hope Food Pantry to make this distribution successful.”
The Perdue donation aligns with the company’s “Delivering Hope To Our Neighbors” hunger relief initiative focused on providing access to nutritious protein for people struggling with hunger and making meaningful progress toward ending hunger. It marks Perdue’s second major protein donation to the Food Bank of Siouxland this year amid the pandemic.
“Many of our neighbors within our communities, including right here in Siouxland, are relying more on their local food banks and pantries to put a meal on the table for their families amid the pandemic,” said Gary Malenke, director of Perdue operations near Sioux Center. “We hope our donation will help ease the burden for individuals and families and brighten their holidays during a challenging time.”
