Perdue Farms Invests More Than $32,000 to Support Children and Families in Daviess County

July 7, 2026

SALISBURY, Md. (June 23, 2026) — Children thrive when they have access to safe homes, reliable transportation, and opportunities to learn and grow. To help expand those opportunities in Daviess County, Indiana, Perdue Farms has invested more than $32,000 in two local nonprofit organizations working to remove barriers and strengthen support for children and families.

The funding, provided through the Franklin P. and Arthur W. Perdue Foundation, the charitable giving partner of Perdue Farms, will support Foster Landing and Healthy Hoosiers Initiative—two organizations with distinct missions but a shared commitment to helping children and families thrive.

“At Perdue, we believe every child deserves the chance to explore what’s possible, regardless of where they live or the challenges they face,” said Kim Nechay, Executive Director of the Franklin P. and Arthur W. Perdue Foundation. “These organizations are making a difference in the lives of children and families throughout Daviess County, and we’re proud to support their efforts to create brighter futures for the next generation.”

Foster Landing: Wrapped in Care Initiative

Foster Landing operates a foster care resource closet that provides essential items free of charge to foster and kinship families. Located just two miles from Perdue’s Washington, Indiana, facility, the organization helps children entering foster care transition into safe, homes during some of the most challenging moments of their lives.

Perdue Farms awarded the organization $4,275 to support its Wrapped in Care Initiative, which provides necessities for more than 300 children ages 5 to 18. The grant will help provide cribs, mattresses, car seats, strollers, bedding, clothing, hygiene products, sports equipment, and gift cards to meet immediate needs.

“Every day, foster and kinship families across our community step in to care for children during some of life’s most challenging moments,” said Evett Wagler, director of Foster Landing in Daviess County. This support helps ensure children have the essentials they need to feel safe, welcomed, and cared for from the very beginning."

Healthy Hoosiers Initiative: Removing Barriers to Opportunity

Healthy Hoosiers Initiative (HHI) works to improve health and educational outcomes across Indiana by connecting families with resources, mentorship and support. Through its Student Scholars program, the organization helps middle and high school students navigate academic challenges, explore future careers, and prepare for higher education.

A $28,500 grant will help HHI purchase a dedicated passenger van that will serve as a dedicated passenger van that will expand transportation access for students and families across Daviess County.

The van will provide reliable transportation for approximately 450 residents, including low-income students participating in tutoring programs, after-school activities, sports, arts programs and other enrichment opportunities that support academic achievement and college readiness. Many students currently rely on inconsistent volunteer transportation, limiting their ability to participate in programs designed to help them succeed.

“This investment is about more than transportation,” said Kaitlyn Gabhart of Healthy Hoosiers Initiative. “It’s about ensuring students have access to opportunities that help them discover their potential, pursue their goals and build successful futures.”

The impact extends beyond students. The van will also transport seniors to YMCA wellness programs and Medicaid patients to healthcare and mental health appointments, extending the impact of the investment across the broader community.
