Perdue Farms Supports Eastern Shore Communities Through Maryland Food Bank Mobile Market

July 27, 2026

SALISBURY, Md. (July 27, 2026) — Perdue Farms and longtime partner the Maryland Food Bank recently joined together to bring nutritious food and critical resources directly to Eastern Shore residents through a Mobile Market distribution event at the West Side Community Center in Bivalve, Maryland.

During the event, Perdue associates volunteered alongside Maryland Food Bank staff to welcome community members and help participants shop for and carry home fresh produce, pantry staples and protein, including Perdue chicken. The Mobile Market provides a no-cost, choice-based grocery shopping experience designed to offer neighbors dignity and flexibility in selecting food that meets their household needs.

The Mobile Market served approximately 53 neighbors and distributed 2,000 pounds of food during the two-hour event.

“The Eastern Shore is home for Perdue, so this work is deeply personal to us. Partnering with the Maryland Food Bank allows us to help get nutritious food directly to neighbors while supporting a program that is built around dignity, choice and meeting people where they are,” said Bill See, Senior Manager of Community Relations at Perdue Farms.

For many Eastern Shore residents, accessing affordable, nutritious food can be challenging because of transportation barriers, geographic isolation, and the limited availability of grocery stores and food assistance resources. The Maryland Food Bank’s Mobile Market program helps address those challenges by bringing fresh food closer to communities where it is needed most, including areas where residents may live as far as 30 miles from the nearest grocery store.

Established in 2020 through support from the Perdue family and the Franklin P. and Arthur W. Perdue Foundation, the Maryland Food Bank’s Mobile Market on the Shore serves communities across eight Eastern Shore counties: Caroline, Dorchester, Kent, Queen Anne’s, Somerset, Talbot, Wicomico and Worcester.

The 26-foot refrigerated vehicle travels to targeted locations, allowing visitors to select from available fresh produce, meats, breads, dry goods and frozen and perishable items.

“Volunteering is my way of giving back to the community, especially to those who need it most,” said Roshan Thapa, Associate Project Manager of Engineering for Perdue AgriBusiness. “Food is essential to our survival—none of us can sustain a life without it—and it's hard to imagine the daily struggle that so many people face just to put a meal on the table. That’s what made this effort so meaningful to me. I wanted them to know that someone cares and that they aren’t facing that struggle alone. Being able to help meet such a basic and important need was a true privilege."

In addition to providing groceries, the Mobile Market helps connect participants with wraparound services and community resources that address factors contributing to food insecurity. Depending on the location, available services may include nutrition education, SNAP enrollment assistance, health screenings and other specialized support offered through Maryland Food Bank programming and local community partners.

Last year, the Maryland Food Bank’s Mobile Market made 282 stops, distributed more than 600,000 meals and served nearly 50,000 people.

In June, the Franklin P. and Arthur W. Perdue Foundation, the charitable giving partner of Perdue Farms, announced a $69,000 grant to support the Maryland Food Bank’s Mobile Market and School Pantry programs, helping expand access to nutritious food for families across the Eastern Shore. The grant is part of Perdue Farms’ Fill the Food Gap initiative, a component of its Delivering Hope To Our Neighbors® outreach program focused on strengthening communities and improving quality of life.

Through its Delivering Hope To Our Neighbors® outreach, Perdue Farms continues to work with nonprofit and community partners to help address food insecurity and strengthen the communities where its associates live and work.
