Charitable Giving Guidelines

Please review the following guidelines before submitting your request.

Submission Deadlines

In order to manage the many inquiries we receive, we ask you to submit all requests for financial support online. We review requests under $1,000 on a monthly basis, and the deadline for submission is the first of each month. We review requests over $1,000 on a quarterly basis. Deadlines are the last day of the months of December, March, June and September.

To ensure sufficient time for us to review your request and to process the grant should we approve your application, please submit your request at least 90 days in advance of when you need the funds. In fairness to all applicants, we are unable to process rush requests.

Nonprofit, tax-exempt status

Our contributions are limited to programs and events that are nonprofit and tax exempt.

  • We can consider requests only from organizations that have IRS 501(c)(3) status
  • Organizations requesting support must provide a Taxpayer Identification number and be able to submit, upon request, a copy of the IRS letter affirming the organization's tax-exempt status

Where we provide support

Our charitable giving programs are designed to support organizations and programs that benefit the communities where large numbers of our associates live and work.

  • We will consider requests from organizations in the states of California, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, New York, New Jersey, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Quebec - Canada, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Washington, and West Virginia
  • We will give preference to the programs in the communities near our major facilities

What we support

We believe in putting our resources where there is a direct benefit to a broad-based spectrum of the community.

  • We strive to strengthen our communities by focusing our efforts on agriculture and the environment, education, fighting hunger and poverty, health and social services, and public safety
  • We also support organizations that celebrate the heritages and cultures of our communities
  • We may give additional preference to organizations in which our associates have direct involvement, but the overarching consideration is the betterment of the community

So that we can focus on these objectives, we are unable to consider requests:

  • From service, fraternal or veterans organizations
  • From churches or organizations associated with particular religious denominations
  • From political action or lobbying groups
  • To aid a single individual or family
  • To sponsor an individual or team
  • To support a participatory fund-raising event, such as a team walk, golf tournament or banquet

If you believe your request meets the guidelines above, submit your request online.

Charitable Giving FAQs

How does an organization apply for funding?

All applications must be submitted online. Because of the large volume of requests, we can respond only to requests submitted via this website. No mailed or e-mailed requests or letters of inquiry will be considered.

How does Perdue decide what to fund?

Our corporate giving philosophy is guided by the belief that we can make the most difference by strengthening our communities through a grassroots contribution program. We manage requests at the local level from organizations that meet our Guidelines. To support this local focus, we afford each of our major facilities the opportunity to provide company funding to local organizations. As a company, we may also identify opportunities to work directly with organizations and programs that support our charitable giving objectives.

What are the chances my request will receive funding?

We receive many more worthy requests than we can possibly fund, and, unfortunately, cannot support every request that meets our guidelines. Likelihood of funding depends upon a number of factors, including the number of requests received and the availability of funds.

How and when will I know whether Perdue is granting my request?

Each quarter, we review requests received during the previous three months. Perdue then notifies each organization whether its request will receive funding.

How can I check the status of my request?

You will receive an email notifying you that we have received your request. After we have reviewed the request, we will notify you whether we are able to provide funding to your organization. Unfortunately, the large volume of requests makes it impossible for us to respond to letters and phone calls.

If Perdue grants my request, when will the foundation disburse the funds?

We consider requests under $1,000 each month. We review requests over $1,000 quarterly. We typically disburse checks and notifications of decisions by the end of the month in which we consider requests.

If Perdue does not fund my request, can I reapply?

If your request met our charitable giving guidelines, but we were unable to fund it at this time, you may reapply. However, if your request did not meet our guidelines, we will also deny future requests.

Why can't I submit my request by mail or fax?

The online submission enables us to efficiently manage the large volume of requests we receive, ensuring we have all the necessary information to properly evaluate each request and enabling us to put more resources into supporting our communities. The online process also helps applicants determine whether the request meets our guidelines.

What if I need to submit additional documents?

The online application process allows you to upload Microsoft® Word® compatible text files (including .doc, .docx, .txt and .rtf formats) or PDF files. If you have hard-copy documents, we suggest you scan them and save them as PDF files.

What is the average size of a grant from the Franklin P. and Arthur W. Perdue Foundation?

We award grants in a range of sizes to the organizations we support, but our average grant is approximately $22,162.

Product Donations

Product Donations to Pantries, Shelters and Feeding Programs

Perdue believes that in a country as rich in resources as ours, no one should go hungry. That is why we've partnered with Feeding America in its efforts to end hunger in America. Our product donations destined for food pantries, crisis shelters and feeding programs are routed through Feeding America's national network of more than 200 food banks, which, in turn, makes our products accessible to local programs in the community. This partnership with Feeding America ensures the safe handling, tracking and distribution of our perishable donations.
