Perdue Foods’ Lewiston, N.C. Facility Honored with USPOULTRY 2025 Clean Water Award for Groundbreaking Sustainability Initiatives
Recipients represent the top 1% of wastewater treatment facilities operated by U.S. poultry companies

SALISBURY, Md. (September 23, 2025) - Perdue Foods has been awarded the U.S. Poultry & Egg Association’s (USPOULTRY) 2025 Clean Water Award for its Lewiston, North Carolina Harvest Plant. The award highlights its unprecedented achievements in wastewater treatment and greenhouse gas reduction.
The prestigious USPOULTRY Clean Water Award is reserved for the top 1% of wastewater treatment facilities operated by poultry companies in the U.S. Divided into two categories, each year a distinguished panel selects one winner in the pretreatment category and one in the full treatment category. Perdue’s Lewiston facility was recognized in the full treatment category, for facilities that fully treat their wastewater prior to discharge.
At the center of the recognition were two distinct projects that have reduced greenhouse gas emissions at the Lewiston facility by 99%. The first project, launched in late 2022, covered two anaerobic lagoons to capture methane generated during wastewater treatment. A partnership between Perdue and GreenGasUSA, the project converts the methane into renewable natural gas (RNG) for customer use. The second initiative, commissioned in 2024, created an onsite carbon dioxide facility that purifies byproduct carbon dioxide into food-grade liquid carbon dioxide.
“Winning the Clean Water Award, isn’t just recognition, it reflects years of hard work, innovation, and the shared commitment of our entire team,” said Drew Getty, SVP Environmental Sustainability. “Capturing methane, turning it into renewable energy, purifying CO2—those are not easy wins, but they’re exactly the kind of progress we set out to make. Through continuous performance tracking, reduction goals, and recycling and wastewater diversion programs, our environmental team ensures we continue to deliver measurable results and consistent progress.”
Perdue Foods’ Draper Valley Farms facility in Mount Vernon, Washington was also named the runner-up in the pretreatment category.
