Part of Company’s Delivering Hope To Our Neighbors Initiative

SALISBURY, Md. (Thursday, January 27, 2022) — As part of its Delivering Hope To Our Neighbors® initiative, Perdue Farms partnered with Feeding America Kentucky’s Heartland to distribute 1,000 meals to families in the Bowling Green, Ky., neighborhood where a deadly, EF-3 tornado struck on December 11, 2021, killing 17 people and forever changing the lives of those who survived.
Perdue Farms responded quickly with a $150,000 donation to the United Way of Kentucky Tornado Relief Fund and a truckload of frozen chicken legs to Feeding America Kentucky’s Heartland. Today, Feeding America, Kentucky’s Heartland deployed its mobile pantry to Lampkin Park in Bowling Green to provide families with a mix of perishable and non-perishable foods, produce and frozen chicken donated by Perdue Farms. The mobile pantry is part of Kentucky Heartland’s monthly distribution of food in conjunction with its agency partner Mount Zion Baptist Church.
“We are so thankful for partners like Perdue,” said Jamie Sizemore, executive director of Feeding America, Kentucky’s Heartland. “With the continuation of the pandemic, the recent tornado disaster and higher grocery prices, families are struggling to provide lean protein at the dinner table. Donations like this make a huge impact for those food insecure families in need.”
“We recognize this remains a challenging time for so many families throughout Kentucky, including in Bowling Green, who still have a long road to get back on their feet,” said Kyla Dockery, Perdue human resources manager at the company’s operations in Cromwell, Ky., who joined other team members to help with the distribution.
“Several of our families in Bowling Green suffered tremendous losses in this storm. Recovering from a tragedy of this magnitude requires an ongoing collective community effort, and we’re proud to stand alongside our partners at Feeding America Kentucky’s Heartland to bring a little hope and nourishment to our neighbors,” said Dockery.
Volunteers from the company’s Kentucky operations have helped with cleanup efforts, donated chicken and cooked meals for first responders, volunteers, and storm victims, and continue to look for ways to support recovery efforts in the region.
