Perdue Named “America’s Best-In-State Employers 2019”

June 5, 2019

Salisbury, MD. (Wednesday, June 5, 2019) — Forbes has named Perdue Farms one of “America’s Best-in State Employers 2019” in North Carolina and Delaware. The list, which Forbes released on Wednesday in partnership with online statistics firm Statista, is powered by an independent survey of more than 80,000 employees working for companies employing at least 500 people within the United States.

“For decades, Perdue has been at the forefront of providing a safe, secure and inclusive work culture where associates have the ability to succeed, both personally and professionally. In fact, it’s a core part of our company strategy,” said Perdue Farms CEO Randy Day. “Our talented, diverse and engaged associates are at the heart of everything we do to fulfill our vision to be the most trusted name in food and agricultural products. We’re honored that Forbes recognizes Perdue among America’s best employers.”

  • Through Perdue HealthWorks, a comprehensive program designed to make living well as easy as possible, associates have access to an on-site Wellness Centers as well as the Health Improvement Program (HIP). At the Wellness Centers, associates can see a doctor with no copay and without having to take time off from work, and eligible associates and their dependents have access to affordable health care. HIP provides free, annual wellness screenings, one-on-one counseling to help associates manage their health, as well as health and wellness programs.
  • Perdue has a long legacy of creating a culture of safety. Perdue workplaces are among the safest in the manufacturing sector with OSHA metrics better than the manufacturing sector as a whole, and among the best for poultry companies. Because of this, the company has won two dozen workplace awards for consistently implementing innovative and effective workplace safety and health processes and systems.
  • Our operations have established associate Inclusion Councils designed to show all associates they have something to bring to the table. As part of this, Associate Resources Groups have been created to engage around a variety of topics including veterans and women’s special interest groups and more. Giving back to the community is embedded in our culture, so community service and partnerships, associate recognition and social events that often serve as fundraising events for organizations in the communities where our facilities operate, are popular.
  • Perdue invests in associate education and development through curriculum at the Perdue Learning University as well as a new companywide program that allows employees to receive their high school diploma through an accredited online curriculum for free.
  • Mentor programs are available to associates at all plants to help them acclimate.

The survey included companies from 25 different industry sectors. The 313 companies ranked among the top employers were awarded as “America’s Best-in State Employers 2019.”

Using a vast sample of the U.S. workforce, associates were asked to rate their willingness to recommend their own employers to friends and family. Forbes also asked participants to evaluate other employers in their respective industries that stood out either positively or negatively. Additionally, employees were asked questions about work related topics including working conditions, salary, potential for development and company image regarding their current employer. This is the third associate focused recognition for Perdue Farms in 2019. In January, the company was recognized by Forbes as a “Best Employer for Diversity.” In May, CEO Randy Day was recognized as one of the Top 5 Executive Sponsors by the ERG and Council Awards, the premiere national award that recognizes achievements of Employee Resource Groups and Diversity Councils. Additionally, Perdue was honored as a Winning “W” Company by the nonprofit 2020 Women on Boards for having at least 20% of women on its board of directors.
