$35,000 Perdue Foundation Grant Helps Provide Two Eastern Shore of Virginia Families Homes Through Habitat for Humanity

October 2, 2018

Salisbury, Md. (Tuesday, October 2, 2018) — Perdue Farms, through a $35,000 grant funded by the Franklin P. and Arthur W. Perdue Foundation, is helping Habitat for Humanity provide homeownership opportunities for two families on the Eastern Shore of Virginia

“Thanks to the support of the Perdue Foundation, we have completed two full houses each year for the last three years,” said Nancy Gonzalez, executive director for Habitat for Humanity. “These families are now living in their own safe and affordable homes and paying their mortgages faithfully. Their lives have been completely changed.”

For 30 years, the Eastern Shore of Virginia Habitat for Humanity has been providing safe, efficient homeownership opportunities for residents living in substandard housing. Since its incorporation in 1988, the Eastern Shore chapter has completed and dedicated more than 46 homes in Northampton and Accomack counties.

Families who qualify for a Habitat house are able to realize the dream of homeownership through a commitment of sweat equity, a 25-year, no-interest mortgage and the expectation that they will continue to support other Habitat projects.

“Homeownership is a dream come true for the folks that benefit from Habitat for Humanity programming,” said Kim Nechay, executive director of the Perdue Foundation. “Perdue has long been a supporter of their efforts and we are proud to know that our associates volunteer in the home builds as well. We want to support the organizations, like Habitat, that are important to our associates in the communities we call home.”
