Statement on the Activation of the Defense Production Act to Protect America’s Food Supply

May 5, 2020

Last week, the Administration took a critical step towards ensuring Americans continue to have a reliable food supply as we grapple with the ongoing COVID-19 challenge. This move provides needed certainty for farmers, grocers, consumers and meat and poultry processors while recognizing the critical work that food industry workers, including Perdue associates, carry out every day.

The health and well-being of these frontline associates continues to be our top priority as we keep our doors open for this essential work. Perdue Farms wants to be the leading example of what a safe workplace looks like. That’s why we are supplying masks and protective gear to our associates and to government inspectors who work in our plants; we have extended the hours of our Wellness Centers, which are always available free of charge to our employees and their families; we have increased our already stringent cleaning and sanitation protocols; and we are physically altering our plants and running at reduced capacity to encourage social distancing; in addition to many other steps. We applaud the President and his team for taking this decisive action, and we appreciate the Administration’s commitment to support us in our ongoing work.
